What Is Pho?

It is a traditional Vietnamese food which is made up of banh pho noodles, broth of bone beef, slices of beef along with fresh herbs and sprouts. There are many types of soup available in the streets. You will find different flavors and taste with the different regions.

What is Pho? History

In the 1800s, after northern Vietnam was free from the colonization of France, the Hanoi and nam dinh regions of the country made the first bone broth noodle soup and named it pho. It is usually a french inspire soup. The term pho derives from the word “feu”, which is French in origin. Pho bac is the rel traditional soup which you can make by boiling the beef bones for a week or more. It is more like a simple broth, which then adds rice noodles and beef slices.

After the second world war, many people migrated from north to southern regions of Vietnam, mainly for escaping colonization. However, this is when pho nam came into place. The spicy soup with added sprouts and herbs like basil, cilantro, etc became popular. However, with big historical events, people started migrating to various places which led to the popularity of the dish. It is one of the favorite and most popular dishes in the world.

The Various Ways To Consume

There are various ways that a man can consume a traditional dish. Mostly the common street food, Pho bo is served in a large bowl. The two main ingredients are the rice noodles along with the broth. People love to have it with small chunks of beef along with special herbs and spices like basil, cilantro, lime, radishes, etc. Many restaurants use various sauces like the sriracha sauce, tomato sauces, fish sauce, hoisin sauce and many more which adds more taste to the dishes. These are the extra additions that you can add to your dish. The variety of sauces and choices make each bowl of soup unique in its taste. The various herbs will add variant flavors to your soup which is absolutely perfect with several elements and uniqueness.

Variations And Diverse

If you do not like beef and think that pho is not for you, you are absolutely wrong. You will find various types and elements of the soup. It is not only made with beef but there are various other types like pho ga which is usually made of chicken and noodles and pho chay which is totally based on veggies. The different regions of Vietnam prefer different types of pho which are famous all over the world. Although they look very similar to each other, these dishes not only vary in looks but in flavors and taste as well.
