The recipe starts with steamed white rice (long grain) that is seasoned with salt and then cooked in a fat of vegetable for two hours. After this, the rice is prepared by adding water and oil into it. This process allows for the formation of gluten molecules that will stick to the rice’s surface. The next step is to roll out the glutinous rice flour to about a quarter inch thickness and place it on a non-stick plate. Next, a thin layer of sugar, lard or fat is brushed onto the top of the floured layer.

This gives the cake a nice rich golden color.
